Considered the oldest family name in
Watertown pizza, Sboro Family Restaurants is as rich in history as its pizza is in flavor.
In 1903, Samuel Anzalone
opened the first spaghetti factory in Northern New York at 840 Coffeen Street, Watertown.
The
over seventy year old tradition that we speak of at Art's Jug, dates back
to 1933, when people dined in what was then the "Stone Jug." "Stone"
represented the authentic limestone block appearance of the building, and the
"Jug" referred to the bootlegging of jugs used during the Prohibition. Fifteen
years after Samuel's daughter, Mrs. Marie Anzalone Sboro and her husband,
Attilio, opened the restaurant, her son, Arthur, returned from the war.
In his honor, she changed the name of the restaurant to "Art's Jug."
In 1948, Arthur and his wife,
Johanna, the second-generation, assumed management of the restaurant. They advanced the business
upon a commitment to quality, service, cleanliness and relationships with customers,
employees and vendors. Their children, Cynthia, Arthur,
and Steven were a familiar sight at the restaurant and played an integral
role in the family business. The family atmosphere became an asset, as generations
of families returned to Art's Jug year after year.

In 1992, Steve and Arthur created a second
restaurant, Sboro's Restaurant, built on Grandma Marie's original homestead. Sboro's
Restaurant is constantly evolving with new dishes and new concepts, while remaining very
consistent in its excellence.
Arthur, his wife Heather, and
his five children, the fourth generation of the Sboro family, are involved
in all aspects of the business from the minute you step in the door.
From seating you to serving you, making your pizza or cooking your dinner,
they are all working together to continue the tradition.
They are still doing things the old fashioned way with great-grandmother Marie's original recipes. They
also use many of their grandfather Art's, and grandmother, Johanna's recipes, standing behind the
philosophy of providing good food, quality service, and a family atmosphere in a clean,
comfortable setting.
The company has continued to grow by building
on the loyalty of their dedicated employees. Not only do employees stay for a long while,
they recruit their family members to come work for the Sboro family.
Today, the Sboro family continues the
over 100-year-old tradition by keeping their restaurants a family-run business, specializing in
old recipes all homemade.
We hope you have enjoyed this bite of Sboro
history and look forward to serving you and your family soon.
